Week 8 - Summary

Chilly Sheets was originally quite a simple idea that truly evolved throughout the past eight weeks. I could not believe how the IST195 class had me come up with so many different ideas that could help make the chilly sheets brand much more successful.

Throughout the eight weeks I thought of many different things to make the brand better, anything from incorporating music to the sheets to thinking of ways to promote my brand so that it would be extremely successful. I did not realize that so much could come out of something so little and I think that the IST195 class actually showed me a few ways of how much work exactly needs to go into something to make it become successful.

The entrepreneurship project gave me time to do some research and I commented on the following blogs of classmates:
-Jamie Manela
     http://manelaist195.blogspot.com/
-Rachel Martinez
     http://raemartinez.blogspot.com/
-Shuduo Feng
     http://shuduosblogforist195project.blogspot.com/
Throughout the project, I feel that I learned a lot and I also found the project to be somewhat enjoyable. I think it was a great learning experience.

Week 8 - Networks

Networks do not have much to do with the chilly sheets brand when you are referring to the product itself. The network that my system for ordering and online website/management system will be very important to make sure that it is running appropriately. The network that my offices will run with  be the best technology and the network will be able to run smoothly even though it needs to process a lot of orders.

I believe that using things like WiFi hotspots which automatically re-route people to a main website to promote the hotspot would be an extremely beneficial to make people see the advertisements as  people will be pushed to look at the advertisement. I think that it is a simple way to use the network to my advantage.

Another thing that will be used is a unique domain name to make the website easy to find for people. I will use something like chillysheets.com to help people find the website simply. The unique domain name can be established through ICANN.

Week 7 - Blog Review

The blog I have chosen to review is titled "Kikolani" and is primarily written by blogger Kristi Hines. The blog talks about many different computer programs and other utilities that can help benefit not only small business and entrepreneurs but it can also help benefit people who are not involved with any form on entrepreneurship or small business.

Kikolani also provides blogging tips on how to make a successful blog. The blog provides many different examples of how to edit and store photos on your blog and how to make your blog look aesthetically pleasing to its viewers. Kikolani provides many examples of what blogs have the best way of reaching viewers and are easiest for people to read.

Not only does Kikolani provide examples of how to make your blog look nice and approachable to viewers but Hines also talks about utilities that can help improve brands and blogs. The blog Kilolani also provides many resources on how to promote a brand and your blog not only though the bog itself but also through utilities like twitter. I thought the blog was interesting because it talked about a lot of things that were discussed in IST195.

Week 6 - Bits & Bytes

Something to improve the Chilly Sheets brand did not even cross my mind until today: music. I have seen a few articles of clothing that have waterproof speakers attached to them and I feel that these will be a great addition to Chilly Sheets.

The speakers will be able to hook up to any MP3 device so that people can listen to any kind of music: soothing to hip-hop, whatever helps people sleep. The whole idea behind chilly sheets is to help people sleep easier and for those people who like to fall asleep to that certain playlist every night, speakers will help defiantly help them sleep even better.

Because most people use soothing music if any at all while trying to fall asleep, Chilly Sheets will provide a built in channel to the speaker system that will be attached to the sheets. This playlist will use MP3 tracks as opposed to WAV as they are smaller and more will be able to fit on the small amount of memory that the technology will have. Because there will not be many tracks on the built in playlist, the available MP3 player adaptability will be great for people who wish to add their own music.

In lecture we also talked about graphics and how they are often used but I do not feel that graphics will benefit the Chilly Sheets in any way.

Week 5 - Input and Output

QR codes can help the Chilly Sheets brand really establish itself as they are some of the most affordable marketing available. A QR code will be made that brings people to the Chilly Sheets website and the QR code will be placed on stickers that will be placed in popular places like on public transportation, college campus's, popular stores. People will easily be able to scan the QR code and the code will instantly inform people on what Chilly Sheets is and how they can buy the sheets or get more information. QR codes are also very cost effective as making the code itself is free!

Another cost affective advance to bring to Chilly Sheets is RFID. Not only will RFID chips be placed on the packaging but they will also be placed on the sheets themselves. The RFID chips will be on the packaging so it is easy to manage a warehouse and distribute Chilly Sheets to where it is necessary. Also RFID will allow warehouse managers to easily find what inventory is running low so they can order more sheets from the the production plant making sure that Chilly Sheets will always be available to all.

As for the RFID attached to the sheets, this will link to a program on the internet that will tell people how many times the sheets have been washed and/or when the sheets need to be washed because they have not been washed for a while. The RFID chips are very inexpensive and they can provide a lot of benefits for people using the Chilly Sheets and for people who work in the warehouse.

(I know this blog is late but I figured I should still keep up with everything)

Week 4 - Hardware and Identity Theft

Identity theft is something that the chilly sheets brand will be taking very seriously. The brand will be controlling identity theft in every way possible. First all programs like online purchasing and phone ordering will all be extremely secure and verified so there will be no problems with any identity theft. The company will take extra precautions to make sure that peoples information is very secure.

This brings me to hardware, something very important for all companies. Chilly sheets will have a great online database and website that will allow the product to be seen by many people. The product will be unknown to people as it is an entirely new concept and in order to make a great website that promotes the brand will need great technology to back it up.

In order to have a secure website and business, servers with updated technology will be purchased in order to keep all customers information as well as the brands information secure. I will also make sure that all technology and hardware that is used is kept up to date in order to best serve all customers.

Week 3 - Spreadsheets

Microsoft Excel is a very powerful program that not many people truly know how to use well. I believe that MS Excel would be extremely beneficial to the Chilly Sheets brand and by using MS Excel, my company would be able to track finances and all purchases made of the product.

MS Excel provides many great features, for example, users can make formulas to help them find when they are below or above budget. With my Chilly Sheets I am sure that I will be spending a lot of money to manufacture them. MS Excel will allow me to track how much money I am spending during the design phase of the process. If I have spent too much money, I will tell the formula to show me "Overdrawn" and change to the color red so I know that I cannot spend any more money. If I am in good financial standing, the formula will say "Finances OK" and the box will be green. These formulas are very simple to make on Excel and the colors feature is a great indicator for the person who is viewing the spreadsheet.

Finally, I will use MS Excel to track how many purchases have been made and subtract that from the total Chilly Sheets sets that were made. I will be able to easily see whenever I need to have more sheets produced. I can also keep track of how many sets of sheets have been sold. There are many ways to use MS Excel to benefit my invention, especially from the business and financial point of view.

Week 2 - Chilly Sheets

I always have a hard time sleeping in Syracuse in the hot, overly humid and muggy weather that happens in the first and last few weeks of school. The weather makes sleeping often difficult and unbearable because all you do is toss and turn in your bed until finally you are so exhausted you fall asleep. Muggy weather is something that makes a lot of people struggle to sleep because a muggy atmosphere is just as unenjoyable at night as it is during the day. Your body is producing its natural heat which gets trapped in normal flannel or cotton sheets and it is hard for the heat to escape.

Chilly Sheets will make sleeping at night in the late spring, summer and early fall much more enjoyable as they will help all people using them feel nice and cool on those hot and humid summer nights. Unlike flannel and cotton sheets which are supposed to help keep heat in, an attempt to keep you warm during the colder months, Chilly Sheets will be made of a material that does the exact opposite, cool users down with a new technology that absorbed heat and turned transformed it into cool energy that could cool your body down.

Chilly Sheets are a new technology that would be easily promoted and brought to the attention of people who were in need of a cooler nights sleep with social media, especially Twitter. Using a website like Twitter would allow product developers to search for people who are tweeting things like "It is so humid I cannot sleep #summerheat" and the Chilly Sheets team will be able to promote the product with ease. Twitter might also be an easy way to promote Chilly Sheets with Trending Topics or hashtags. Both things allow for great publicity in an extremely affordable way!
